The elements of the book that make it a fantasy, are the man of mystical creatures, and the use of magic. In the beginning of the book, both Percy, Grover, and his mom
transcend from a Minotaur. Percy, Grover, and his mom thought at first that the Minotaur was
a hooded man running towards them. Eventually, he got closer to them, and they realized
what it was. The Minotaur caught up with Percys mom and grabbed her with his fist and turned her into golden dust. Then she suddenly vanished.
In the middle of the book, Percy, Grover, and Annabeth encountered Echidna, the terrible Mother of Monsters. Echidna had a chimera that was disguised as a chihuahua. Grover and Annabeth went down the nip and tuck while Percy fought the vicious chimera. The chimeras tail hit Percy and he was evil very badly. The Mississippi River was only a couple of stairs down. Percy knew that the Sea God could not help, because the Sea was not attached to the river. But he was willing to try. Percy jumped! The impact would have been like falling onto concrete but he didnt feel it. champion of the relatives of the Ocean Spirits was in the river and it protected Percy. Percy later caught up to Grover and Annabeth and they were finally free of the chimeras path.
