Aim: magnesium with Hydrochloric Acid
In this piece of coursework I entrust investigate to earn if concentration affects the rate of reaction betwixt Magnesium (Mg) and Hydrochloric biting (HCl). The rate of reaction involves how pine it takes for the reactants to turn into products and so in this investigation we are flavor at the amount of Hydrogen gas produced at different concentrations to see if concentration does affect the rate of reaction in the midst of Hydrochloric acid and Magnesium. The purpose of this investigation was to see if concentration affects the rate of reaction between Magnesium and Hydrochloric acid. Magnesium is one of the key reactants in the experiment. Magnesium is a chemical substance element found in the periodic table with the chemical abbreviation of Mg.It is a soft, light, silver/white metallic element and has an atomic number of 12 and an atomic mass of 24 and is the eighth most abundant element on the priming coat [1]. It is an alkaline earth metal and consists of 12 protons, 12 neutrons and 12 electrons.
However the number of neutrons differs as there are different isotopes of Magnesium (Mg, solid). So in the first electron quiver there will be 2 electrons present, however in the second electron outwit there will be 8 electrons present and in the third electron shell there will be 2 electrons present, this can be written as 2,8,2. It appears as a silvery- white, hard element that is found in ribbon or powder play and burns a brilliant white flame. Its highly flammable and very reactive, if the flame is looked at by a naked eye when burnt it can cause much damage. Magnesium is a solid meaning its atoms are jam-packed more tightly to shakeher making its reaction with an acid take longer.
