The Berlin Conference in 1884 was an important event in the compound history of sub-Saharan Africa. Here the scrambling of Africa was officiated peacefully on and a map of Africa was drawn on paper with different compound powers like Britain, France, Germany etc making their claims on the colonies they controlled. But this process was uncomplete absolute and nor unchallenged, and thus increased the complexity of colonisation.
In 1869, in spite of the steady increase in the power of the western European nations compared with that of other peoples in the world, only a small equalizer was under the European rule. Algeria was under the cut, exactly elsewhere in North Africa only in Egypt and Tunisia existed at least an smidgin of European control. In West Africa it was only in French Senegal and British Gold Coast that there were colonial administrations impression any considerable number of Africans and only in Senegal had European rule penetrated more than a few dozen miles inland. This was a consequence of the Suez Canal, the construction of which had led the French to judge a counterpoise to the British coaling station in Aden by establishing a base on the inhospitable Somali coast at Obok. The only deep penetration of Africa by European governments was in the extreme south. However, here the position was complicated by the hostility between the British colonies on the coast and the African communities in the interior.
