The Tell-Tale Heart

In The Tell-Tale Heart, Edgar Allan Poe creates an eerie and disturbing whim. Poe creates this mood by showing the thwarting of the mans sum total and the tomfoolery of the narrator. The mere thought that somebody was sneaking in your way and watching you sleep for seven days sends a quiver up my spine. The narrator was so deranged for wanting to shoot down because of an eye.
He had the eye of a caribeâ€"a piquet blue eye, with a film over it. Whenever it fell upon me, my ancestry ran c aged; and so by degreesâ€"very graduallyâ€"I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, thus rid myself of the eye forever. The narrator states that he is not mad, he is not insane, but what does this show? Does it show he has a reason to kill the old man? Or does it show that in truth, he is a madman; cleanup spot out of insaneness because an eye drove him mad?

Villains! I shrieked, dissemble no more! I admit the exploit!â€"tear up the planksâ€"here, here!â€"it is the beating of his hideous heart! This quote brings out the guilt and madness of the narrator. For as the proceedings pass after the old man is dead, his heart beat haunts the narrator and become louder and louder.
