Throughout the ages, women become always appe bed to be victims of oppression by men. There are many cultures and religions that have separated roles for the men and the women. Traditional gender roles have depict men as the providers, while women are the nurtures and stay dwelling house to keep the house clean, cook and care for the children and their husbands.
The convey we are analyzing is the tragedy of two oppressed women on a clear Spanish- controlled island. Badis (1989) is the name of an actual liquidation in the regions of Al-Hoceima. It is a colonisation in the North in which the forth has been occupied by the Spain.
Starting from the opening scene, we were introduced to the first character; Moira, dancing the flamenco, a Spanish dance.
Moira is a local girl whose drive , a fisherman, rules her. The two have lived alone ever since Moiras mother, who was Spanish escaped back to her country 5 years earlier, as an act for which the stimulate continues to keep an eye on her. Moira appears in the film as an adolescent girl who is imprisoned in a poor house in the villag.
During the absence of her father Ba Abdellah, she dresses up in her mothers hoar gowns and sings Spanish songs to herself to escape the drudgery of life as her fathers housemaid.
Moira eventually falls in love with the Spanish soldier who everyday goes to the village for water. The Spanish soldier belike reminds her of her Spanish mother. Meanwhile, a school teacher and his wife Touria go to the village, coming from Casablanca. From the film, we can understand that the teacher suspects his wife of infedility and has brought her to the village as a punishement, but whether she was actually unfaithful or not is not clarified. For him, it was as a form of discipline.
