Sociology explores and analyzes the ultimate issues of our personal lives, of participation and the world. Its the science dealing with sociable forces that shape our lives, interests, and personalities. Sociologist dig deeper into the social life and the principles to explain benignant behavior as a whole. It also helps us to rede why we behave as we do. This is a necessary understand because it brings about social change.
The goal of the book is to introduce us (students) to the sociological ways of perceiving and interpreting the social world. People ar social beings. We argon products of our social environments. Even though we ar puppets, we are also puppeteers. There are 4 primal implications that groups are human-made. 1) social forms that are created have a real momentum of their own that defies change. 2)social organizations, because they are created and sustained by people, are imperfect. 3) through collective action, individuals are capable of changing the social organisation of society and even the course of history.4) individuals are not passive.
Sociology began is horse opera Europe during the Enlightenment. New intellectuals believed that human beings could authorize their social problems.
Their were 4 key theorists that laid the foundation for contemporary sociological thought. Auguste Comte, the have of sociology. He wanted to establish sociology as a science, impeccant of religious arguments. He was convinced that using scientific principles, sociologists could solve problems such as poverty, crime and war. Emile Durkheim paid a circuit of emphasizes on social facts and social integration. Karl Marx devoted his life to analyzing and criticizing the society he observed. He was also interested in how capitalist economy shaped society. Max Weber, showed that the basic structure of society comes from the political, economic, ethnical spheres. He also showed how ideology shapes the economy.
